Wisc. Historical Society's Pre-1907 Vital Records Research Service Online Genealogical Research Service Request and Payment Form This online service from the Wisconsin Historical Society (formerly the State Historical Society of WI), allows researchers to request a search of Wisconsin Pre-1907 birth, marriage and death records and pay with their credit card since June 2001. Requests will be processed and mailed within four weeks. Fees are $10.00 per request for Wisconsin residents and Wisconsin Historical Society members, who already help underwrite our costs, and $15.00 per request for all other researchers. Wisconsin state and local sales taxes are automatically added to each order. First class shipping by the U.S. Post Office is included in the prices above. Researchers can choose Rush Service, which guarantees their request will leave the library within 7 working days, for an additional $25.00. Orders shipped to addresses outside the U.S. are charged an additional $2.50. Researchers may have no more than two orders pending in the system at any time.

The ARC is a cooperative project of the University and the State Historical Society of Wisconsin to preserve historical records in a nine-county region. These counties are: Adams, Juneau, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood. University students and faculty, genealogists, local-history writers, and other researchers are encouraged to use the Center.Holdings
More than 250 series of county and local public records including tax and assessment rolls, rural school district records, some probate records, county board proceedings and justice dockets. Also in the holdings are naturalization records for Adams, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage, Waupaca, Waushara and Wood counties; pre-1907 birth, death and marriage registrations for these counties; state and federal population censuses; and genealogical files (98 boxes with card index) for residents of Wausau, compiled at the time of the Wausau Centennial (1939).
The ARC holds over 50 collections of papers and records produced by private organizations and individuals. Among them are records (1900-1955) of the Wisconsin Cranberry Sales Company, Wisconsin Rapids; papers (1857-1860) of Burton Millard, a Wausau millwright; records (1854-1946) of the East Lemonweir (Juneau County) Lutheran Church; and tape-recorded interviews by Malcom Rosholt.

Guides for the Portage County Historical Society collection, University records and smaller archives collections are available at the Area Research Center.
Network Transfer Provision
This feature makes available in Stevens Point one of the nation's richest collections. Request for temporary transfer of collections from Madison or other ARC's should be made to the head of the Stevens Point ARC.
Other Research Resources
Related collections available for use in conjunction with the ARC include: University archives; the Portage County Historical Society's newspapers, books, maps, clippings, and other local history sources; and extensive government documents and special collections. Archivists at each Center answer written and telephone reference requests and help the public use the network's resources. Archival collections usually located at the State Historical Society or at one of the Centers may be transferred temporarily within the network to accommodate local historians, genealogists, students, and other scholars throughout Wisconsin. Before their initial visit, researchers are advised to write or call the appropriate repository since some collections may be on loan and hours may vary.
